You probably heard that “Carrier IQ” spy software has been discovered in Apple’s iPhones and iPads.

Here’s how to disable it:

Open the “Settings” app

Select “About” at the top

Scroll way down

Select “Diagnostics & Usage”

If “Automatically Send” is checked, your iPhone may be transmitting your exact location — depending on whether you have “Location Services” enabled.

Want a more complete way to block the data flow?

Select “Don’t Send,” which stops all use of Carrier IQ.

This won’t prevent other forms of digital surveillance, but hey, we’ll take what we can control.
