Police reports state that the thieves greased the train track beforehand, causing the 54-wagon vehicle to slow down due to uneasy controls. The criminals then proceeded to use a tow truck to remove the containers of corn. The train was hijacked as it travelled through a rural area proximately 180 miles 300 kilometers north of Sao Paulo.Altogether the trains main cargo included 60 tonnes of both corn and sugar. It is yet to be confirmed whether the thieves intended to keep the corn for personal use or sell it on.The method of theft used by these criminals has been likened to the cowboy thieves of the mid-western era, who were responsible for robbing moving trains.
